John is a part-time writer and musician from Brooklyn, NY. Growing up in New York’s Hudson River Valley, John moved to Manhattan to attend school at The New School University Mannes College of Music. After college, he made the obvious career move to become a non-profit organizer. For the last decade, he has organized local, national and international campaigns focusing on human rights, social injustice and environmental protection. In 2004, John left the non-profit world and freelanced as a writer, photographer and sound technician while continuing to volunteer and teach for many community projects.
“After spending so many years trying to balance my desire to be creative with my drive to do good in the world, I think I’ve found the answer…create a project that embraces both. Working for and with many charities made me both hopeful that so many people wanted to make the world a better place and frustrated that not enough was being done. Focal Point is our chance to actually help some of the world’s most forgotten areas hands-on, and do it the right way. We are small enough to slip through the bureaucratic trappings of large charity organizations but focused enough to be very successful.”
